The Grip Hate Holds on Love
It's always harder to remember or to let the moment last,
When hate unravels slowly, it fades into the past.
I forget to hold it against you, peace has been made,
I too quickly let go of what should hold more sway.
Conjured on your tongue is a quick-witted excuse.
I make myself your sacrifice; bruised eyes, drawn into recluse.
When did this love burn up in mere survival?
I scratch from beneath my monument of stone.
What began as "together" has turned into "you,"
One heartbeat's rhythm where there should've been two.
Today you come home livid, ready to start on me again.
But, by tomorrow, all's forgotten and I'll trust your bloodied hand.
