A child
I am a child
I am a child
I am the child of a proud policeman
I am the child of an illegal alien
I wakeup in my own bed
We sit on the cold floor
Mother is angry that we woke her up
Mama is sad that we could not sleep
Father kisses my head and goes to work
Papa says they think we are not worth two pence of people's time
Father searches for bad people, just like a hero
That man hunts down his prey, everyday
Father checks every house
We can not stay at any house
Father cleans every street
No street is safe
Mother makes me a sandwich for lunch
Mama begs for leftover food
And then
But then
We were told that father had found another man
That man found Papa when he was looking for a job
Father said the alien ran like the wind
Papa ran for his life
Father shot his gun to startle him
The predator shot my Papa down
Father got rid of the alien
The 'man' left him in an alley
I asked him why he was called an alien
I asked Mama why we were aliens
Father said it was too complicated
Mama said it was because they see us like foxes in their hen house
I am a child
I am no longer a child
