What "they've" done
What “they’ve” done
They said I had to conform, so I danced to my own beat
They wanted me to be thin, so I decided to eat
They tried to make me paint my face, so I threw my paint away
They pushed me to talk like everyone else, so I said what I wanted to say
They took away imagination, so I played on inside
They put me in a cage, so I broke free to ride
They saw me as a number, so I gave myself a name
They showed me things on TV, so I didn’t choose the fame
They tried to change and tame me, so I left them at the door
They can’t take away my heart, so I’m me forever more
