The Sunlight Lament

He is the sweet sunshine that warms my face
The summer light that shows its grace
The passing cloud that throws its comfortable shade
The chivalrous knight for whom no debt need be repaid
Arms always open, smile always wide
His affections I will never be denied
He’s the sun and the rain, life-giving and bright
What I need to live, giving eternal delight

But equally enticing, yet in a different way
Is another, one whom I’ve known for many a day
I know him well, yet not at all
He’s a mysterious puzzle standing six feet tall
His eyes are intense, not quite hiding the fire inside
Although beneath his cold outer shell, the fire can hide
His stare intense, bright with a dreamlike haze
The gods themselves must divert their gaze
When with him, every cell comes alive
A temporary high, almost impossible to survive
He’s the moonlight, beautiful yet frightening
He’s a shot in the arm, like a bolt of lightening
I crave him, need him, I need to have more
But with him my downfall, of this I’m sure

He is not the rain, the sun, giving life
He is hell’s child, giving nightmare and strife
I hate him, despise him, want him to die
But if he should perish, so would I
There is no life with no hope of more
Not after in my heart a gaping hole he tore
For so many years, I’ve yearned for his care
There’s no hope of living if he’s not there

But the sun and the rain, so temperate and bright
Warming my face, fighting the fight
“Stay away from the darkness,” he bid me, he said
“He’ll bring you down, he’ll make sure you’re dead.”
I’ve tried, sweet sunlight, I’ve tried my best
How I would love to go with you and leave all the rest
You’re the light at the end, you guide me the way
I can spend, arm-in-arm, an entire day
Someday you’ll know, someday you’ll see
That in the end, it wasn’t all up to me
I love you, but I need him
Although his fire made my life dim
He is the drug, there is no turning back
I’m trapped in Satan’s child’s pit of black
So my love, go on and take care
Shine your light elsewhere
You deserve someone better, someone whole
Not me, the prisoner, who has paid the ultimate toll
I belong to the moonlight, the darkening hate
So go, sunlight before it’s too late
Take my love with you, and never regret
For you, my love, I will never forget.

I love this poem it is so relatable, and so well written. Every girl has her sunshine and her darkness, I like that she came out and said it.

You are so very talented; I am amazed. Don't stop writing, and put yourself out there as much as you can. Don't settle for a chemist if you want to be more.
