Tea Time With Papa
I stood because I was too short to sit
And you sat on the floor.
We crowded around that small wooden table and had tea
Wednesday afternoon.
I drove you nuts and talked your ear off.
You were lucky if you got a word in at all
But you loved every moment of it.
It was the quality time that your little girl spent with her papa
That meant the world to you.
We were on a make-believe date.
You were always so polite.
Words can’t describe how handsome you looked
After work in your painting clothes.
You asked if we should invite pretend guests
I didn’t need guests; you were plenty enjoyment.
You pinched my cheeks as I broke the invisible cookie in half.
I always gave you the bigger half
It was memories like these
That made me look forward to those Wednesdays.
The time I got to spend with papa
And have tea.
