Sonata
There’s a music in my mind,
Bits of melodies I find,
There are phrases, runs, and trills I make my own.
There’s a steady, rhythmic beat,
And I can’t help tap my feet
To the soundtrack that is played for me alone.
It’s triumphant and elusive,
It’s demanding, unobtrusive,
Capricious, ever-shifting, never changing,
And the music flows like water,
Drifts along and roars like thunder,
It’s a symphony I’ve spent my life arranging.
There’s a theme that comes and goes,
And it’s one that no one knows
It’s a never-ending recapitulation,
It’s the music of my life,
It’s the tune of ease and strife
And the harmony of fury and elation.
There’s a backdrop to my thoughts,
One I’ve never come across
Anywhere but the recesses of my mind;
So I live life in a trance,
In a lone and lonely dance,
And the only steps are those that I’ve designed.
