Under the Oak Tree
As the last leaves of fall danced past
We sat under the oak tree
Dangling our feet in the water
Laughing
Joking
Remembering
While the sun and moon revolved
What did you do?
I asked
And you shrugged...
Where did you go
That I couldn't follow?
And you blinked...
And why
Why couldn't you stay with me
When I needed you the most?
And you turned away...
I touch the water
Watching
As your image dissolves in ripples
Standing
Alone
As I realize this place isn't the same
Under the oak tree
No longer what it used to be
So I stand to go
Close my eyes
And the last leaves of fall sweep away
My footprints
