In the Darkness of Midnight
A strange image starts to form and spread
As comforting sunlight turns dim and frail
Emerging beneath the creaky stairs or under a bed
Eerily it glides, stalks, and begins to trail
Wherever you go, it follows so closely behind
Taking on the form of whatever it desires
It cannot be outsmarted or outrun, you will find
For its ubiquitous presence never tires
Surrounding all sides in the darkness of midnight
Alas, there’s no escaping its terrible wrath!
But at the break of dawn it hurriedly takes flight
No longer so fierce, it slinks along the path
Scuttling back into the corners of the dim alleyway
Who’s scared of a little shadow anyway?
