The Door
A thin sliver of light
Peeked from behind it
Slicing darkness and penetrating thoughts
The thin wood frame stood as a
flimsy shield
Powerless against harsh words
That cut like blades in soft flesh
Fresh wounds soon emerged
Marked with crimson and shadow
The result of savagery and angst
The wood splintered
Shattered by hard hands
and cowering fear
Becoming useless for protection
or weaponry
Settling on the soft plush of the carpet,
The ultimate dichotomy was no longer
torn between two worlds
