When I See You by Day

When I see you by day, across the room,
Your face a bit serene, a little bored,
I see your eyes divulge a piece of moon
And wonder if your mouth some sun keeps stored.
In time I catch myself and look away
And sit like you, eyes staring at the wall,
But I see more, I see your mouth give way
To all the sun that makes the earth so small.
Then do I blink and feel the vision leave.
My mind returns from swimming in your light.
The room seems small, my feelings seem as sheaves
Gathered at dawn, but left alone in night.
They rest, detached, and sleep 'neath darkened sky
To live anew in dreams wherein you lie.
