The American Dream
The American Dream
Words I’ve heard
For as long as I can remember
Yet nothing to me
The American Dream
A lie
Things I don’t understand
Yet people tell me it’s what I should live by
But the American Dream has become distorted
No longer what the Founding Fathers imagined
The American Dream
Not what we imagine
After Regan
Watergate Affair
US Sanctions
Bush
Weapons of mass destruction
Are those the American Dream?
Because I’ve read the Constitution
And the Bill of Rights
Over and over again
I’ve looked as hard as I can
I didn’t see any of that there
I saw life
Liberty
And the pursuit of happiness
I guess I’m looking
For something else
