Permit Test
We left unfinished feelings at the red light.
We never once yielded at yellow.
I kept moving forward as if it were green,
As you spun a U-turn into the past.
My accelerator wouldn't let lose
while you kept moving in reverse.
I began to stall, crashing into the center
and you were to far back to help.
Road flares flew from my back seat
Spelling your name in the sky so you'd see.
But you never saw, and you never came.
You were looking down not up.
I'd go on waiting as cars passed by honking.
They'd see me and stop and I'd wave them on,
Hoping that you'd be next.
You never were.
We left unfinished feelings at that red light,
while I moved on, and you stood still.
