Petals
Flower petals fall around her
like raindrops dancing towards the ground
"he loves me, he loves me not"
she repeats
singing each petal it's own song.
And she carries on this way
until day turns to dusk
and dusk to dewdrops
and she tears each flower apart
searching for one particular answer
but only finds the answer
that she does not want to hear.
Soon the petals on her lap transform into a hill
and then a mountain
growing past her eyes, her nose, her lips
obscuring her vision
so that the only things that she can see
are those petals
and the only words that she is able to speak
are those words
yet she still does not stop.
And she allows the petals to fall around her
like teardrops from her sorrow filled eyes
until she is completely buried
unless a hand dares to reach in
and pull her out
