Holding back waves
It is not possible to hold back your waves because eventually the tide will go high. If you hold the waves back for long enough a surprise will be waiting to happen.
Soon enough when you have held the wave too long it will smack you in the face crashing everything in its way. Leaving only little hope behind for you.
It is up to you to take that piece of hope and help it grow. Eventually your waves will become silent, steady, and only overflow once in a while if you keep that hope.
But if you forget about hope and try to keep the waves back they will come back and hit you again.
