"There is nothing so unnatural as the commonplace."- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sometimes I wonder, do you care?
When I hurt and cry, are you even there?

When times are hard, I turn to you
But I receive no answer, are you even there?

The suffering people, out on the streets
Does it touch you? Are you even there?

Children die of terrible disease, why do you not
Hear there screams? Are you even there?

When life ends too early, snuffed like a candle flame,
Why do you not stop it? Are you even there?

Bombs fall, then are caught by buildings. Do you hear the wails
Of the girl whose mommy was inside? Are you even there?

Bullets flying, it reeks of the dead, they say that
There are no atheists in foxholes, but are you even there?
Sterile masks, filtering the filthy air, stark
Against the smog. Are you even there?
I ask with no reply on behalf of the dying
And the sick. I ask for them, are you even there?

I wake in the morning, I open my eyes, I draw a breath
The room bathed in sunlight and I wonder, how could you not be there?
