Not a Soul
You come upon an old, dirt road,
so straight, so long, so hidden.
Not a soul for miles around,
it can only be forbidden.
Of course you mustn’t take the road;
you don’t know where it ends.
But just when you start to turn back,
the road abruptly bends.
Curious, this little road
that beckons you to follow.
Where does it lead? To happiness?
Or does it end in sorrow?
Only one way to find that out.
You shouldn’t stall much longer.
For though this road shall always stand,
you don’t get any younger.
Another minute or two of thought,
and then you shall decide.
Alas! Too long you tarried, it’s vanished now.
You’ve hurt its mighty pride.
Never shall you see this road
again, but it e’er taunts you
with its glorious, twisting path.
The outcome always haunts you.
