Infinite
We stood on the deck and shook our fists at the sky
Jumped up on the boats –
the parents never questioned why
Why we had to greet the storm,
Throw ourselves into it –
Why we had to have
one moment to feel infinite.
We screamed at the waves and yelled for more
Dove into the fray –
never looking back to shore
Where the trees shook their heads,
Dipped their branches into it –
Reluctant witnesses to our
moment to feel infinite.
We let the rain pepper our slick and raw faces
Limbs tangled and shaking –
Mud leaving dark traces
We held on to each other,
God pulled us all into it –
Giving us this tempest
and this moment to feel infinite.
