Heart and Soul
We have a maddening, lingering thirst.
It haunts the wretched, the hopeless, the cursed.
A desire, passion, for someone to trust,
Someone who won’t turn away in disgust,
Not flesh and bone, but heart and soul,
Filling every gaping hole,
Every aching hole.
We lose ourselves searching for this very heart.
When one feels wrong, we turn back to the start.
Why would those who also search, possess what we seek?
Our yearning drives us insane, our futures seem bleak.
Most give in to bitterness, giving up hope.
They see the path now as a never-ending slope,
A rocky, slippery slope.
Good things don’t come to those who quit.
The One you seek is no hypocrite.
Stop looking among the sinful and weak,
He lives in every Word we speak.
Ever in pain, with absence of joy,
The ones who don’t find Him, He must destroy.
He will destroy.
