Footprints- A concrete poem
Yesterday, I

you
But I wondered if
they really were.
I took my thoughts to the edge of the shore and began
to walk. When you left, my world stopped. But as I walked,
I noticed something. The people kept swimming. The birds
kept flying. The dolphins kept jumping. Life proceeds, despite
the obstacles, despite the pain in my heart. You know,
It’s easy to recognize the bad things in life.
Your departure. My loneliness. But, it is
even easier to dismiss the beautiful
things like health, my friends, and my
family. And since you’ve been away, I
ignored all of those things—all of the
things that make the hard times worth
it. In the midst of my deep thinking, my
eyes were drawn to the imprints in the
sand. Feet—big, small, shallow and deep.
All of the people who made those prints
suffered through obstacles. It is a part of
life. So why should I let it bring me down?
From this day forward, I thank you. Not
for only the good times, but even the
bad. Thank you for leaving your
footprints on my
life.
Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you.
