This Year
This year starts with a pile of snow,
up against your window.
You pull on your mittens and fight the cold.
Only Jack Frost would be so bold!
Then the snow fades to patches of green.
Could it be, the lovely spring?
Flowers pop out and the rain starts to fall.
The clouds pull away, the blue sky stands tall.
The weather gets warmer, all sticky and dry.
The sunshine gets bolder and big in the sky.
You get a sunburn from a day at the beach.
You want these days to last, counting down each.
The leaves start to change as they slowly float down.
So many colors: red, yellow, orange, brown.
There's a nice cool breeze as you stroll through the park.
You listen to laughter and hear a dog bark.
And now the cycle starts over again.
The animals hibernate, the bear's in her den.
This is how the year has gone,
and next year, and next year, and next year… so on.
