My Paradox

Tomorrow when I wake,
And find the will to stand,
I've beaten all my logic,
And fulfilled our silly plan.

For sometimes in the morning,
And those wee times of the night,
I contemplate the universe
And the smallness of my life.

Often it is difficult,
To accept these terms of scale, Because we want to be important,
A significant detail.

But from ashes to ashes,
And from dust to dust,
Our only remaining lifeline,
Will be the memory we trust.

So tomorrow when I wake,
And stumble to my feet,
I'll have done myself a justice,
With intellectual defeat.

The author's comments:
Often people struggle with their general purpose, and my mind has always wandered and wondered about my place in the world. This poem illustrates my frustration with the collision of logic and human behaviour, specifically with trying to understand how we continue to live with purpose despite our seemingly insignificant value in the universe.
