What is and What Would Be
April 2, 2008
My unknown, 18-year-old father
Poses for his senior picture
Blue and white infused background
Old, beaten brown chair he poses with
Bright blue button-up shirt
Blends in with the background
His brown, wavy hair relaxes with out enthusiasm
his anxious face, frozen in that pose
I often stare at this picture and wonder -
What would my life be like if he had never left?
what drove him to his decision?
So I sit and write this poem,
Looking at the only picture of my father.
