Barely
Barely audible
are my lonesome footsteps
on the brick sidewalks
of this peculiar city.
Barely visible
are my pitiful tears
on the aching expressions
of my sorrowful face.
Barely sensible
are the raindrops,
pitter-pattering
their strange notions
to a world too preoccupied
with work deadlines and water bills
to enjoy the precious droplets.
Barely defensible am I,
alone in a city of doubts,
left unprotected by my familiar oak trees
and the open farmland.
Barely repairable
are my blazing aspirations
as I look into the sunrise,
optimism overcoming me:
how safe the unfamiliar is.
Barely noticing the defeat
as so many others are falling around me.
