In a place with nothing to do
In a place with nothing to do
we sat there like tree stumps
that have forgotten they are tree stumps
and have been breathing restlessly
for the past several hours
because no one has told us
that there is no reason to be frightened.
So we sat there and tried not to breathe,
because if we do we fear there will be gunshots
that are aimed straight at our hearts,
which have already taken enough of a beating
and are about ready to go home.
But since we can't tell if the danger is over
we sit there, wide-eyed,
waiting for them to pass.
