Savannah
Three pairs of stomping feet filed into the car
complaining that it was too hot
That we were bored
That we were hungry
That we wanted to be anywhere but here
It was nearly 100º as we reached Savannah Georgia
It was an hour away from Hilton Head, SC the place
We wanted to be
My long bare legs were sticking to
the gray leather seats of our van
My shirt moist from the humid air
All I wanted to do was sit on the beach next to the cool water
My Mother on the other hand
Thought my sisters and I should visit a town with history
Boring…my sisters and I sang together
That last thing we wanted to do on vacation was
walk around some old town filled with old buildings
We parked the van
and my Mother ordered us to get out
My little sister refused
only to get out if we rode the trolley
We got on the bright orange and green car quickly
Hoping… for wind, anything to move the heat
The Trolley at least would make us move
The faster we saw the town the better
My sisters and I felt cooler, still bored
but no longer dying from the heat
As the Trolley moved, I turned my head towards the window
and after awhile I even started listening to the tour guide
I started to see the town as it used to be
Their was this hunted pirate inn and the bench where
Tom Hanks sat during the filming of Forest Gump!
Oh and Lunch! I could have eaten forever
We entered this old house
Family-style, you didn’t wait for a table
You sat at a table with a another group of people
and you didn’t pick your food
You ate what they survived
and they fed you until you could not eat anymore
The place was Mrs. Wilkes 1 of 1000 place to go before you die
Now I have 999 places left
and I won’t complain about it
I would hate to admit it
but I am glad my Mother force me to go
An adventure taken is better a then trip never traveled
