My Feet
These feet have traveled many miles
over cool, wet grass and
scorching asphalt
They have traveled farther than my young age may allude to
farther than you know
maybe farther than you've traveled.
Cold streets, gravel, broken glass
Broken hearts, broken dreams
These feet have traversed the toughest terrain
and treaded the sweetest, softest soil
They've suffered over coals and rocks
and tacks and thorns
and splinters and spikes
Yet they remain soft, smooth--
Not calloused and rough--
But sensitive and tender;
accepting the pain of being exposed to the abrasive elements
so that they may experience the pleasure
of the cool summer grass.
