Belisarius
Constantinople has fallen!
300,000 dead!
Tear-stained faces of boys in the streets,
The sidewalks all stained red.
There he stands surrounded
By garbage and dead buildings and debree.
This city once known as a spectacle
Has now conceded to its knees.
And he does the same,
In awe of what he's done.
And autocratic embarrassment:
Belisarius, here's what you've won.
What you fought so hard for
Is now vastly lost.
Paused in time, a pillar of excellence,
But what, oh what, was the cost.
