An Endless Cycle

I thought I saw a Samaritan
Escorting an elderly lady with groceries hand in hand.
I turned my back;
He ran away with her purse.

I thought I saw an Iraq veteran
Filling out paperwork for her degenerative PTSD at a clinic.
I turned my back;
She got turned down.

I thought I saw a student
Shaking hands with the principal at an award ceremony.
I turned my back;
He pulled out a gun.

I looked away in shame.
What happened to the world?
What happened to people?
The levels of immorality grow as new generations are being born.
When will it stop?

A tiny ray of sunshine catches my eye.
Is this my silver lining?
Is this a sign?

I thought I heard the moans of a woman.
I turned around;
A sun glow smile formed on my face.
I saw ten tiny fingers expand for the first time.

I thought I heard the cries of a man.
I turned around;
A tear sheds from my eye.
I saw him reach out to hold his baby for the first time.

I pause...
The smile fades.
I turn my back.
Why bring another life into this world
Only to be deceived?
