Mid-Summer Crisis
The summer sun taunts as you light your cigar
(Oh, the way that she sang while you played that guitar)
And I’m writing our story, the paper ignites
(But I’m trying to hold onto those big-city lights)
Now you came for a nighttime, we sat up downstairs
And this strange disconnection became so aware
Till at last you laid down in my bed and the sound
Of your breathing matched mine, brought me back to the ground
So I wrote you a letter, you drove down the street
See, I’m trying to fly while I stand on my feet
And if you want to find me, there’s nowhere to look
You’ll be left with regrets, and the moments you took
Oh I’ll be in the distance, a speck fading fast
While you sit by that August fire, too cool to last
And this island keeps beating, this summer drags on
But my last trace of you is in
Singing this song.
