Sidewalks at 4am
Stepping to the rhythm of
Flickering lights,
Blurred by the dampened darkness.
The city sunk in blue velvet
Shadows falling upon the walls,
Dragging, sinking, lower and lower
Deeper into the sewers,
The basements.
The distant prose of Luther Vandross
Humming a sweet love song
That hung from my lips.
Each word whimpered into the night,
A smoke of syllables and metaphors
Vanishing into thin air
Like daylight.
