Streetlights Late MAG

By Anonymous

The darkness flows around the houses
like soft cream
enveloping mashedpotatoes,
Its current sweeping kids inside.
Heavy, cool, it bathes thehot
scarlet bricks,
Dries them with a velvet towel,
and dressesthem
in silk pajamas.
The parents,
kids
Sit down to dinnerand
the houses throw out amber beams,
From bright orifices -
Windows,from under doors,
The tide of ebony,
Retreats like oil from water,
Buthangs suspended
Beyond light's pale grasp.
Suddenly
The streetlightsflicker on,
And the darkness flees
Whimpering
From a neighborhoodilluminated.
