All I Am
Jump ropes and swirls
And sparkles and curls
And ballerina twirls.
Five-year-old girls.
Lizards and bees
And climbing trees,
The ten-year-old glees.
Shadow and blush,
Dreams flit to meadows so lush.
The innocence in a twelve-year-old's flush.
Journals and books
And a brown-eyed boy's looks.
Nestled in the library's young adult nooks.
Fickle and foolish
To glasses and schoolbooks.
Bubblegum pink and aqua blue
To purple and emerald
And almond brown, too.
But as the years go by
And my heart's yearnings grow strong,
Though I may be searching wrong,
My soul cries a whisper of a song.
And,
Through braces and bangles
And equations and angles
And journals and books
And all those flirtatious looks,
Through all I am,
And all I will be,
My heart waits for you.
