Firefly
Childhood is a firefly
Losing light in nighttime air
Why must it fade and die
A flower wilts; I cry
Youth can’t help but care
Childhood is a firefly
Sitting by the river I drip dry
Letting the sun bleach my hair
Why must it fade and die
Bubbles shimmer in the sky
Colors shifting by the sun’s glare
Childhood is a firefly
Growing up is saying goodbye
To the joys only children share
Why must it fade and die
It’s to be expected; I don’t know why
I wish I could stay there
Childhood is a firefly
Why must it fade and die
