Status Ocean
The kraken sits over the ocean
Strangling every fish that swims close
It sits over the sea,
Ever hauntingly,
Leaving every fish feeling morose,
And the tides always in torpid motion.
The shark swims forward unending
All of its time, it’s spending
Swimming forward with no mending
Of its torn fin
That keeps pretending
It isn’t worn thin.
The minnows all group together
And any storm they weather
Their travels all the same,
None change their game,
they dodge their life flame’s snuffer
Still in that horrid crowd, they suffer.
And so, locked under those tentacles
The Sealife suffers from the rule
Of their tyrant, their eternal damnation
Even though no sin, no pentacles
About them, no deed so cruel
To deserve this stagnation.

This piece was written to somewhat address how the status quo of modern day influences how people live their daily lives. As the author, I am a sixteen-year-old student who only recently discovered his love of poetry. I hope this is enjoyable!
