Isaiah 43:2
"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you"

I sit alone.
I stare at the pitch-black alley beneath me.
Holding my jaw, Dad and I fought again.
The dark of night covers the deep bruises.

I sit alone.
Eyes red, too numb to feel.
I wait for light to come into my life.
Wondering if it ever will.

I sit alone.
Hungry again, but that’s normal.
My head and heart pound.
I wish I could escape this room.

I sit alone.
He locked me in here again.
It’s the only room with a window.
I feel more alone since Mom left.

I sit alone.
I know Dad does too.
I wonder why we can’t feel alone together.
I hope I won't sit here alone forever.
