I cannot be you.

But you can be me.

Because I'm a descendant of your line.

We have all walked the same path at one time.

Memories and stories passed by

mothers,

 fathers,

sisters, and others…

Like workers in an assembly line, we carried them on

but kept them close in our minds.

Where we take your chain of words

and place them safely in each of our cars making up our time in life.

Forming the train of your story we fuel the fire of your love.

Making sure every spark matches what you gave to those you treasured.

It'll be as if your heart never stopped beating.

But I wish…

I had your I love you’s on repeat.

And your hand over mine.

Even at the time when you would forget how many times you told me.

And remind me to never forget your name.

You still uttered those three syllables on your deathbed.

I love you.

I LOVE you.

I LOVE YOU.

I heard you.

And I hear you.

Even now as your soul sits waiting for mine to join in a few decades' time.

SO relax…

You have done enough.

Jest rest.

and when it's finally my time I'll make sure they know the man.

-my Great Grandpa-

Who helped me see the world still held meaning.

Even in pieces. Each fragment earth held was a family.

Something he held dearly.

A symbol of his purpose was seen in those he valued most.

Now even if you are not here with me.

-Physically-

I'll still take your free praises with me.

And make it my phrase.

A mantra-record.

Of your days and to remind me.

Life will be okay because you'll live on through me each and every day.

I wrote this for my Great Grandpa during his passing, and it was said by me at his eulogy.
