I thought I knew how to play cards; it’s a game of luck, strategy.

It’s just a game, and easy enough. No harm, just fun…right?

But I didn’t know I was the game to him, being used and played.

This piece is a form of poetry called sijo, similar to a haiku but not quite the same. It is about a teenage girl being "played" like a game. The partner is trying to be secretive and or strategic when you are supposed to feel loved and cared for in a relationship. In the end this shows the toxic nature of this relationship and how she didn't even realize until it was too late.
