The Gardener
You are a sculptor of young people’s life
You have shaped the world into something better than it was before
The world has prospered from the great things you have accomplished
Everyone must leave something behind when they die
A child, a book, a garden, a house built, a pair of shoes, a recipe, something worth remembering
And when people look back at that tree planted or that book written you are there.
It doesn’t matter what you do so long as you change something from the way it was before
And shape it into something that is like you when you pull your hands away
You will leave many great things behind
When you die the world will be bankrupt of millions of things that your hands never got the chance to touch
The difference between the man that mows lawns and the gardener is in the touching
The lawn cutter might just as well not be there at all; but the gardener will be there a lifetime
You have left your mark on me by teaching me so much
When people see my knowledge they will see you
You are the gardener and you will be there a lifetime
