Fragile Stay on Trail
Lying on a Californian field are thousands of golden poppies.
They stand out like a lion in the zoo.
They reflect the beauty of a morning sunrise,
And warmed the onlookers' hearts.
But visitors acted like monkeys at a zoo.
People walked on the flowers, the poppies screaming beneath their feet.
The flowers were murdered and cried out their heart.
Leaving the once blooming field, as lonely as a deserted island.
Though nature created those stampeding feet,
Mother nature felt her deepest regret.
The survivors were pushed from the path onto an island,
Where they remain forever since, mourning.

A recent story surrounding a once beautiful field of flowers, since having been destroyed by people who wanted to take photos and selfies without caring about trampling flowers, inspired my pantoum. Our global impact not only extends to climate change, and pollution, but also the destruction of natural beauty, like flowers.
