Stage Fright
As she walks on, her heart is racing.
Her heart is chasing what she wants most
Her heart is chasing, but it’s nothing worth placing.
The lights blinding, the faces frightening.
The faces staring, only at her
Everything seems like a blur.
Every audion is a nightmare,
Everyone is right there.
All the people are singing,
All the voices are ringing around
All voices are feeling the sound.
All voices moving together, except hers
She can’t sing too quiet, she can’t sing too loud.
All she wants is her mother to be proud.
She wants mother to be proud, but she can’t be too loud.
She can’t be too loud or else the crowd will hear.
The crowd will hear and pick her apart.
The crowd is big, but the crowd is small,
The crowd is small but far too tall.
She's in the choir trying her best
Being put to the ultimate test.
She’s pushing her limits, outside her comfort zone
The zone is getting bigger until she says.
“All she’s doing is yelling”
All the people say she’s good, but there’s no telling.
If she is good, or if she’s yelling.
The zone gets smaller and smaller,
Until there's no use telling her all is good.
All the voices, all the dancing
All the right moves, all the right stances.
So many perfect chances to do the right thing,
But she can’t ever seem to get it right.
She can’t do the right things with all of the blinding light
The blinding light staring into her eyes
She tries and she tries, but all the little things
Never turn out right.
She wants to audition,
But every audition is a mission she will never complete.
She wants to compete to be the one.
The one with the spotlight, the one in the so very special light.
The only thing getting in her way is the thing she hates most,
stage fright.
