I Should Have Been a Son
Life is dangerous for me:
I’m a girl and I’m young.
If I move, they’ll tie me up.
If I talk, they’ll take my tongue.
Nothing’s really fair;
That’s something they don’t teach in school.
Who knew that something strange
Could turn into something cruel?
I’ve lived my whole life
Staring down the barrel of a gun;
I should have been a better daughter
Or I should have been a son.
