Manolo
Manolo is a dog so crazed
His electrifying, green eyes so glazed
As if with hallucinogenic excitement
Always favoring any enticement
Manolo’s a chocolate lab mix
With fur as brown as sticks
His pink tongue froths
Dripping as if broth
He lunged
Across the sofa, his smooth paws plunged
His teeth snatch at
A pillow, that,
Rips with each bite
Manolo challenges us to a fight
Manolo etches red cuts
Against our skin; my heart shuts
At having to put up with him
A young dog, always on a whim
Manolo also leaps at huge bounds
Landing on a table as if it were mounds
Of rock
At night, in his barred crate,
With no time to wait,
Manolo lets out clamorous noises
Similar to birds’ voices
He hates being alone
Always wants a reminder of home
From us
Manolo strides with orange-yellow energy
Never giving in to lethargy
Which my other dog, Brownie, had
Manolo, however, always has much more to add
