Dreams in the Dark
She tightly grips her mother's hand
And stares into the darkness
She couldn't really understand
This world that held no justice
"Everything will be alright"
Mother whispered in her ear
But this cellar banished from light
Could only hide her tears
She knew the war that was outside
She's known it since her birth
And yet she hopes, though she hides
Someday she'll walk the earth

I wrote this poem after I got a few words from a random word generator. Those words were justice, cellar, and earth, and they made me think of Zlata's Diary, from when she and her family were hidding in their cellar during the war in Sarajevo.
It's sad how war can destroy the lives of children. It becomes their "normal" and they can't imagine a world where they don't have to live in fear. I wish that wars wouldn't happen anymore, and children could live without fear, no matter where they live, what they look like, or what they believe in.
