The One You Can't Remember
Words on a page,
Capturing a moment.
Crafting and shaping the letters.
They’ve got a story to tell,
If you just take the time to listen.
This is me.
The song in your head,
The one you can’t remember.
The words familiar but still so distant.
I’m the elusive name on the tip of your tongue.
Each step bringing you closer pushes me farther away.
Never close but neither far,
I keep my distance but peek inside.
I tell a joke and then disappear.
I melt into every crowd.
Just enough so you know my face,
Nothing more, nothing less.
I am the odd one out,
The black sheep,
I drew the short stick.
If people were letters I’d be an apostrophe.
I rarely make sense to those around me,
They don’t realize I live in a fictional reality.
Who am I?
I’m the guy you all know, but not by name,
I’m the one with a song in his head,
A bounce in his step,
And a smirk on his face.
I am.
Words on a page,
Capturing a moment.
Crafting and shaping the letters.
They’ve got a story to tell,
If you just take the time to listen.
