The Smell of Writer’s Block
It carries an aroma
of ink
and pencil sharpenings.
Like paper
and eraser.
Like an old,
crusty dictionary
lying open on my floor.
Like an overheated lamp
hanging over my head
and the pillow
I lay my face in
when nothing comes.
Like the crowded
dusty bookshelves
I turn to for advice
And bury my nose
in each one
searching for my muse.
