A Note to a Soldier
You kiss your wife and say goodbye to your new baby girl
Dressed in uniform your plane starts boarding
You only have precious seconds before you will have to leave their world
You kiss them goodbye
And with tears in your eyes
You leave your heart behind
Just two months
You had with them
Now twelve months
Only love in the letters
You can send
You hold their picture to your heart
You wish you didn't have to be apart
You close your eyes
And promise them
You will stand strong
For your country
You say I wont be long
And then you step into another world
A whirlwind
Camouflage is everywhere, gunfire, heat
No escape from the scorching sun
You run and run and run and run
You know that man who's family will never see him again
But you still remember that country you defend
Fight, shoot
And then it ends
The streets are clear
For now you are safe
And then you see that mother holding her son
And you remember that this war must be won
As you fight for her, and me, and everyone
I just want to say thank you
For keeping me free
By giving up everything for me
