Growing Wings
Once there was a girl
Who dreamed of growing wings
She wanted to collect the stars
And thread them through a string
She longed to touch the velvet night
And hold the fiery sun
To run her fingers through the clouds
And see the sunset spun
With each hopeful wish she breathed
A fierce desire started to grow
And fill her with a fluttering
That caused her to begin to glow
Bright designs etched her pale skin
Creating slender butterflies
That each began to stretch and stir
To take off into the dark skies
And so that quiet little girl
Had finll’y gotten her one wish
To escape the bands of earth
And see the world start to flourish
