In The Night of the Red Sky
In the night of the red sky
As the night wraps around us, you respect the silence with me
Honoring the lost souls that are remembered here
The wind should have chilled us yet it seemed to cease.
I would fall behind, keeping my slow pace
Yet you would wait for me when you would’ve normally kept walking
The untold lives that stood around us seemed to steal our ability to voice our thoughts
The red sky of nighttime above us softened our normally sharp words
I believe the red is what we have in common
For the red, itself protects us from our fears and our anxieties
But the night does not last
Neither does this perfect little moment we shared
For a brief time, you were a companion, a friend, a diamond in the rough I discovered
But are you really a diamond?
I can not say, but until next time my “friend”
Until the next time the night sky is red.
