Huge drops of tears are pouring down from the sky
The fetid smell of death envelops the dimly lit room
Asleep in the gloom of the night, we have no other place where to be
As I look out of the window, I can hear the stars talking to me

I lived the last years of my life as a fugitive
Living in an annex that was all but agreeable
Trying to escape the inescapable
There was nothing more irritating than the Vaan Dans’ squabble
I grew less and less communicative
With all these people who found me difficult to handle
Even though I tried to fix my impetious character
It became obvious that the problem laid deeper

Two years later, the angels of death erupted in the house
With the firm intention to send us to a German slaughterhouse
Our most inoffensive sin, our native nationality
Had just subjected us to an unfair atrocity

I painfully recall my father being violently carried away
I am suffocating under this thick white blanket
My sight is gradually blurring, the flame of my life fading
My life was not perfect
But I am proud of the young woman that I have become
There is no more reason for me to stay
For I know that somewhere in the unknown, a new life is awaiting
