There's Nothing There
I start to itch
I scratch and scratch
with no relief
I scratch until I'm bleeding,
but there's nothing there
my eyes search the walls, the ceiling
for something, I don't know what, but I can't find it
I squeeze my eyes shut
to make it disappear, to make it all disappear
everything, but nothing
I want to see reality, where is it, is it there?
I feel a tap on my shoulder,
someone's biting my leg!
I check, but there's nothing there
I'm sweating now, and breathing heavily
I'm not listening, but I hear someone call my name
but I can't tell from what direction
I hear someone else now,
it's not real, I don't think, is it?
there's nothing there
there's nothing there
I hear a buzzing
inside my head
I claw at my ears,
viscously, viscously, feeling no pain
I tear them wide open
I reach inside,
searching, searching....
but there's nothing there.
